Grant “What to Do with the Numbers” access to Google Analytics (v5)

The first step in getting the most out What to Do with the Numbers is to give us access to the numbers! Here’s a step-by-step how-to tutorial on giving read-only or administrative privileges to your Google Analytics website profiles.

Go to the Google Analytics log in page

Open a web browser and enter the address for logging in to Google Analytics: http://www.google.com/analytics.com

Click the “Access Analytics” button

Click on the “Access Analytics” button.

Sign in to your Google Account

Enter the email and password you use for your Google Analytics profile.

Confirm that you’re using Google Analytics v5

Look at the upper left of the Google Analytics Overview screen. If it looks like this picture, then you’re using Google Analytics version 5. If it doesn’t look like this screen, you may still be using Google Analytics version 4. Click here to see instructions on adding a user to Google Analytics 4.

Click on the Account Administration gear icon on the right of your screen.

Waaaaay over on the right of the screen you will see a gear icon. Click that.

You are now on the Account Administration screen. Click on the Account Name you want to use with “What to Do with the Numbers.”

You will see a list of the accounts you administer. Click on the name of the Google Analytics account you want to use with “What to Do with the Numbers.”

You are now on the specific account page. Select the “Users” tab.

There is a row of tabs on this page, Select the one labelled “Users.”

You are now on the specific account page Users tab. Click “+ New User”

There’s a big button labelled “+ New User.” Go ahead and click it.

You are now on the “Add User to Account” screen. Enter todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com into the “Email address:” field

1) In the “Enter User Information” Email Address field type this: todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com 2) Note that it says “User e-mail that is registered in Google accounts” Please be assured that todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com is in fact registered in Google accounts, so don’t stress out about this.

Choose an “Access Type” for todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com

If you would like “What to Do with the Numbers” to only be able to see data and not to make it’s own profile for data analysis, choose “User” If you are comfortable letting “What to Do with the Numbers” have full access to your web analytics profiles and make it’s own profile for data analysis choose “Administrator.”

If you chose “View Reports Only” select the Website Profile you want to use with “What to Do with the Numbers” otherwise skip on to the next step

Below the bar labelled “Profile access to” do the following 1) select the website profile you’re using with “What to do with the Numbers” 2) Click the button labelled “Add>>” 3) Confirm that the website profile is now in the box on the right labelled “Selected profiles”

Click the button labelled “Create User”

At the bottom of the Add User to Account screen is a button labelled “Create User.” Click that button.

You’re done!

After clicking the button labelled “Save Changes” you will be returned to the specific account screen Users tab. You should see that ToDo@whattodowiththenumbers.com is listed there.

As long as your “What to Do with the Numbers” payment is current, you will receive a list of about five things to do each month.

Grant “What to Do with the Numbers” access to Google Analytics (v4)

1) Go to the Google Analytics log in page

Open a web browser and enter the address for logging in to Google Analytics: http://www.google.com/analytics

2) Click the “Access Analytics” button

Click on the “Access Analytics” button.

3) Sign in to your Google Account

Enter the email and password you use for your Google Analytics profile.

4) Confirm that you’re using Google Analytics v4

Look at the upper left of the Google Analytics Overview screen. If it looks like this picture, then you’re using Google Analytics version 4. If it doesn’t look like this screen, you may already be using Google Analytics version 5. Click here to see instructions on adding a user to Google Analytics 5.

5) Click on the account name you want to use with “What to Do with the Numbers”

Find the account you’re using with WTDWTN in the list of accounts. Click on the name of the account you want to use with “What to Do with the Numbers.”

6) You are now on the Account Overview screen. Click on the “User Manager” link.

Below the list of profiles, in the center of the screen, is a link for the “User Manager.” Click that link.

7) You are now on the User Manager screen, click “+ Add User”

Waaaaaay over on the right of the gray bar labelled “Existing Access” is a link that says “+ Add User” Click on that.

You are now on the Create New User for Access screen.

This is where you’ll be adding a new user, todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com, to your user list. Nothing to do at this step but take a deep breath and get ready for the next step.

9) Enter todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com into the “Email address:” field

1) In the “Enter User Information” field type this: todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com 2) Note that it says “Must be a Google Account.” Please be assured that todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com is in fact a Google Account, so don’t stress out about this.

10) Choose an “Access Type” for todo@whattodowiththenumbers.com

If you would like “What to Do with the Numbers” to only be able to see data and not to make it’s own profile for data analysis, choose “View reports only.” If you are comfortable letting “What to Do with the Numbers” have complete access to the web analytics profile and make it’s own profile for data analysis choose “Account Administrator.”

11) If you chose “View Reports Only” select the Website Profile you want to use with “What to Do with the Numbers” otherwise skip on to the next step

Below the bar labelled “Allow access to” do the following 1) select the Website Profile you’re using with “What to do with the Numbers” 2) Click the button labelled “Add>>” 3) Confirm that the Website Profile is now in the box on the right labelled “Selected Website Profiles”

12) Click the button labelled “Save Changes”

At the bottom of the Create New User for Access screen is a button labelled “Save Changes.” Click that button.

13) You’re done!

After clicking the button labelled “Save Changes” you will be returned to the User Manager screen. You should see that ToDo@whattodowiththenumbers.com is listed there.
